20 primary school learners rushed to hospital

ELUKWATINI – The department of Education is awaiting test results to determine the source of sickness which led to about 20 learners from Elukwatini Primary School rushed to hospital on Tuesday.

The learners were taken to Embhuleni hospital after complaining of stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Spokesperson for the Department of Education Gerald Sambo confirmed the incident. “All learners received medical treatment and were taken home. We are currently waiting for the test results to determine the cause,” said Sambo.

MEC for the Department Cathy Dlamini said that the incident was a concern considering that similar cases were occurring in other parts of the province.

“The department urges all school management teams, school governing bodies and parents to be extra vigilant about what learners eat both within the school premises and outside,” said Dlamini.
