The Office of the Chief Whip in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature has suspended murder-accused Philemon Lukhele with immediate effect.

Lukhele was served with the notice this morning and was ordered not to contact any of the employees in his office. The statement released states his office noted the seriousness of the charges against Lukhele. In line with the Code of Conduct, a resolution to suspend him was taken. He will not conduct work in the Chief Whip’s office and the principle of “no work, no pay” applies.

“This will continue until the conclusion of the internal investigation on his role and participation in this matter. This Office remains resolute as alluded by the Chief Whip, Fidel Mlombo that it stands for protecting women, girls, and boys and condemns in the strongest terms any acts of violence perpetrated against the vulnerable,” reads the statement.
