After warnings of persistent rainfall, areas in the Nkomazi region are currently affected by floods.
According to Nkomazi Local Municipality’s spokesperson Cyril Repinga, about 11 bridges are now under water. “We are assisting those residing in low lying areas with evacuating as the rain continues,” he said.
In two seperate incidents, a 60-year-old man from Kamdladla who was allegedly fishing at the Mlumati River was swept a heavy current. An 18-year-old learner from Shogwe Boarding school was also swept away while trying to cross the same river. Both people have not been found and according to Nkomazi local Municipality, divers are still on a search.

Some residents took to social media to share visuals of the flooding in their respective areas.





The public is advised to avoid using low bridge routes. The local municipality warned residents about the persistent heavy rainfall. Its Disaster Management team is on standby to help in case of emergency. Emergency numbers are 082 806 1611.
