A newborn baby was found dumped in a plastic bag at the sports field yesterday in Mbuzini, Nkomazi.
According to the police, children who were playing on the field at about 15:00 made the gruesome discovery. The children allegedly alerted elders who responded to the call, and they found the baby girl alive.

“It is alleged that the elders assisted the baby with first aid, including the safe cutting of the umbilical cord. She was then taken to one of the local hospitals for medical attention. The baby is currently doing well under the observation of health practitioners,” said the police.

A case of concealment of birth was opened and police. The police request anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the mother to contact Detective Sgt Sipho Shekwa on 072 119 3487.
