Education MEC calls for smooth school reopening

KABOKWENI- Mpumalanga MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini has urged communities to start preparing for the smooth reopening of schools next week.

The MEC made the call on Monday, January 6 during the 2025 Back to School Programme at Phatfwa Secondary School in Embonisweni.

Speaking during the event, Dlamini emphasised the importance of working together to ensure the best possible environment for learning and teaching this academic year.

“As we prepare for the school reopening next week, the Department is making a clarion call to call all members of the School Governing Bodies (SGBs), School Management Teams (SMTs), and parents to start preparations for the successful and seamless commencement of the 2025 school year,” she said.

The MEC encouraged communities to take simple yet impactful actions such as cleaning classrooms, organizing school furniture, and repairing broken windows and fences, stating that these contributions would go a long way in creating a favorable environment for learning and teaching.

“Every contribution, big or small, will go a long way in creating a favourable environment for learning and teaching,” she stated.

In addition, School Management Teams were also urged to focus on finalising key preparations for the upcoming year. This includes ensuring smooth admissions processes, allocating learners to the appropriate classes, distributing learning and teaching support materials, as well as finalising timetables.

The Department’s efforts are part of the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena Campaign and the 2025 Back-to-School Programme, which aims to encourage all SGBs in the province, parents, and school management teams to prepare before the school year begins.
