School admission applications for the 2026 academic year is officially opened. The admission window will run from May 2 to August 21, 2025.
The department explains that schools need timely admissions to properly plan for essential resources including LTSM, staff, and classroom infrastructure. “We call upon all parents and guardians to take advantage of this period and visit their nearest schools to register their children without delay,” reads the department’s statement.
To complete the admission process, parents are encouraged to submit the following supporting documents:

- The learner’s birth certificate or identity document
- Immunisation card from the clinic
- Proof of residence; and
- Any other relevant documents.
“In line with the spirit of inclusivity and the South African School Act, the school will not deny any learner admission because of missing documents. In such cases, we will grant parents or guardians three months after admission to submit the outstanding documents. School principals should accept alternative documentation, such as affidavits or sworn statements, when necessary.”

The Department emphasises the commitment to the constitutional right of every child to access basic education. Education MEC Cathy Dlamini urges parents and guardians to act promptly and ensure full compliance with admission requirements.
