Swift action by members of the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team in Ehlanzeni led to the foiling of a business robbery at Kanyamazane on Tuesday, October 7.
According to a statement, police were conducting operations in the area when they received information about a white vehicle with no registration plates that had been seen driving around business premises suspiciously.
“While following up on the information, members were alerted to a robbery in progress at T & Sons Supermarket in Kanyamazane. The team responded immediately and tactically approached the scene, where they confronted armed suspects. Upon seeing the police, the suspects allegedly opened fire at the police and a shootout ensued. One suspect was fatally wounded, another sustained injuries, while three suspects managed to flee in a white Kia,” reads the statement.

One firearm was recovered at the scene, and cases of business robbery as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition have been opened.
The search for the remaining suspects continues.
