EMALAHLENI – More than 30 bundle of joys were born today in various hospitals across the province.
The number of babies born so far is 33 of which 18 are boys and 15 girls. The first baby was delivered in Tonga Hospital at 00:02am.
This is includes Thoko Mdluli’s baby boy, Zwelihle weighing 2,8kg who was supposed to be born in February 2026 but ended making his arrival earlier than expected at Witbank Hospital where the premier, Mandla Ndlovu and MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini visited and gifted the newborns.
His ecstatic mother said she was happy her son was born on this special day. “What makes me happy is that I gave birth naturally without any complications. His other three siblings were very happy when I told them about their brother. It is indeed a miracle because I did not think I would be in labour so soon,” she said.

Another newborn baby, Zuluelihle was welcomed at around 3:00am. Her mother, Ayanda Mabuza expressed satisfaction on the treatment she received from the hospital staff from her arrival. ” I did not expect to be received with warm hands from the nurses. I am excited and my baby is definitely a blessing to me and my family.”

“There are schemes that provide support children through social development programmes from birth. We love our children and we have a responsibility to take care of them,” said Ndlovu.
