MBOMBELA – The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency as well as the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT), launched Tourism Month at the Lowveld Botanical Gardens yesterday.
The agency also unveiled this month’s activities under the theme, Rural Development and Tourism to promote domestic tourism. DEDT MEC, Pat Ngomane delivered the keynote address. The theme is aimed at fostering awareness about domestic travel among communities with a special focus on travel to rural areas, villages and small towns.
“Tourism month provides us with an opportunity its to showcase the various tourism offerings in the province and encourage our local communities to travel. During this period, a number of initiatives will be implemented aimed at creating awareness on the importance of domestic tourism in the economy,” said MTPA’s CEO, Johannes Nobunga.
