Following the death of a 60 year-old man who died in hospital on Monday, September 9 after he was allegedly assaulted by members of the South African Police Service, an investigation has been ordered by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi.

The incident reportedly occurred in Piet Retief whereby two members are said to have attended a Domestic Violence complaint at a certain house. The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are still under investigation. However, the man died in hospital after being admitted with injuries.

Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned this incident and expressed deep concern over any actions that compromise the integrity of the police service.

“There is nothing that is going to be swept under the table and we can never allow any manner of misconduct by members of the service. The incident is regrettable, and if these members are found to have taken the law into their own hands, then unfortunately they will have to be charged accordingly and face the full might of the law,” said Major General (Dr) Mkhwanazi.
