ELUKWATINI – A 40-year-old man arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Lindiwe Maseko is accused of having an abusive history and threatening the deceased a month before he allegedly killed her.
Zakhele Nkosi who worked as a security guard reportedly handed himself over to the Ermelo police and confessed to brutally beating Maseko to death with a pick handle in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Elukwatini Police Station Spokesperson, Sergeant Wiseman Nkosi said that they received information from the Ermelo police about the suspect who had handed himself over and alleged to have fatally assaulted Maseko before he fled Nhlazatshe.
“We proceeded to the address provided by the suspect, where the lifeless body of a 35-year-old woman was discovered. It is alleged that the incident was triggered by a phonecall that did not sit well with the perpetrator,” said Nkosi.

The deceased’s uncle, Banele Maseko said that Nkosi was alleged to be an abusive and jealous lover who threatened to harm his brother’s daughter a month ago.
“We have discovered as a family that the boyfriend came to the family house about a month ago and threatened that one day we would find her in pieces. His neighbours also revealed that my niece endured physical abuse at the hands of her lover. We are very devastated as a family,” said Maseko.
The deceased worked as a merchandiser for a local supermarket and leaves behind two sons. Her colleagues described her as a kind and friendly person.
“We are shocked to learn about her brutal death. She has never shown any signs of abuse and was always smiling. I have never seen her angry at anyone in the past five years of working with her. She loved going to church. We are very disturbed by what happened,” said her friend and colleague, Nqobile Mgwenya.
