Middelburg crash claims four lives including infant

Four people were killed in a side-swap collision between a light delivery vehicle and a sedan on the N4 in Middelburg early this morning.

Three of the deceased were occupants in the LDV, and this include the driver. The fourth victim was the passenger in the sedan. The victims included an infant. Two people were critically injured, and one person, the driver of the sedan, sustained serious injuries. The injured were rushed to Middelburg Hospital for further medical attention.

According to the DCSSL, the LDV collided with the sedan, overturned several times on the side of the road. The cause of the crash is not known at this stage. Investigations are still continuing.

“Motorists must be on high alert at all times when they are on the road. When visibility is restricted, drivers must reduce speed. Those who are driving long distances should rest sufficiently along the way to avoid crashes brought on by fatigue,” said MEC Jackie Macie.
