OSHOEK – More than 10 people are recovering in hospital after a truck lost its brakes and crashed into six vehicles at the Oshoek Border Post on Sunday late afternoon.
The truck was reportedly driving from South Africa, headed to deliver goods in the Kingdom of eSwatini when the accident occurred.
According to the Border Management Authority’s regional manager, Ndivhuho Livhimbi, the truck driver failed to use the available arrester beds and hit the fence before it crashed into the parked vehicles on the side.

The vehicles included a Mercedes Benz, a 22-seater mini bus, a quantum, a small truck all traveling to eSwatini and two private vehicles belonging to border officials.
“It is unfortunate that the truck driver didn’t use the arrester bed when he realized the brakes were failing. He tried to avoid the barrier cones and as a result, crashed into the parked vehicles,” said Livhimbi.
Livhimbi added that the injured people were rushed to the nearest hospital in the Kingdom of eSwatini for medical attention.
“We advise truck drivers to use the available road features to prevent such accidents from taking place. Motorists should also park their cars at the safer parking spots as indicated by the road signs on entry,” he concluded.
No fatalities were reported.
