Project Manager

Is an experienced and qualified editor-journalist with 39 years’ experience in the media industry and a former editor of Mpumalanga News for 16 years. He holds vast experience that stems back from 1980 at a youthful age having been trained from institutions such as the Media24 Journalism Academy in Basics of Journalism, Sub-editing and Features Writing. He has also undergone training through the institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) in Reporting and Sub-editing, Economic Reporting. He was also trained by the Nordic-Sadc Journalism Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Lilongwe, Malawi in Investigative Reporting. Joining Caxton Local Newspapers at Lowveld Media in 2005, he has undergone intensive training in Newsroom Management, Editing, Media Law and various other business development courses to enhance his duties as Editor of the two provincial newspaper, Mpumalanga News and Mpumalanga Mirror.

During his tenure as Editor, he has focused on developing more than 20 journalists in the province through the company’s Cadet Programme, some of whom have been swallowed into the provincial institutions’ communications department, including others that found greener pastures and joined the ranks of the SABC news department. In the 39 years of his tenure as a journalist, he has worked for The Times of Swaziland as Proof-reader and Features Writer (1980-83); The Swazi Observer as Sub-editor, Proofreader and Features Writer (1983-86); City Press as Cub Reporter, Community and Hard News Reporter, Showbiz Reporter, Showbiz Editor (1986-1990); Bona Magazine as Features Writer, Showbiz Editor and Bureau Chief (1990-2000); Flava Media as Marketing Director (2000-2005); and eventually Mpumalanga News/Mirror as Editor (2005 to date).

Armed with the above feat in the news production and printing industry and at the helm of the aforementioned publications, I have been associated with, it is befitting of me to assemble a team of experienced and dedicated journalists and establish a credible black publishing media company in Mpumalanga Province that will be the epitome of nurturing and developing young journalists in the province. There’s been this ever rising desire to embark on this business seeing the numerous newly qualified journalists joining my current institution for internships, whether still currently training or having completed their studies, ending up in other careers like communications instead of pursing their journalistic careers as initially intended.

He has personally contributed to mentoring many of the current provincial government’s communications officers, many of whom underwent training under his tutelage. His conviction is to ensure the company grows and becomes a reality in order to contribute to skills development and uplifting the economic status of the province.

Executive Director / Writer / Content Creator

As a former member of Brazotime, she came with a wealth of journalism and general publishing experience, which spans from 2007. She started as a freelance journalist on a voluntary basis at Mpumalanga News, whereby, she covered general news, especially features, entertainment and one-on-one interviews with personalities.

As another side line towards her journalistic development, she was also a member of the closed corporation that has been working in conjunction with Graphixbyraquel, whose sole duty was designing, layout, proofreading, sub-editing and writing of service delivery news material for Ehlanzeni District Municipality, her role, in particular, being a writer and proof-reader. She has been part of the team that has been producing the official newsletter, Siya Deliver Manje and their annual reports commencing from the 2008/2009 financial year.

It has been through working under the watchful eye of experienced partners in the business, which includes her mentor and father, Bongani Hlatshwayo, former Editor of Mpumalanga News and Mpumalanga Mirror and the equally experienced graphic designer, Raquel Lopes that her scope of work has grown tremendously. She was also a journalist and a trainee editor for Mpumalanga Commuter. She is an extrovert, a perfectionist, efficient and a highly organized person, which enables her to be as productive as possible in all duties she performs. My strengths include striving to be the best at all times and to complete any project at hand with success.

In 2016, she was part of the Caxton Training Academy having been trained extensively in multi-media and community journalism as well as feature writing through the University of Cape Town. I completed the course and obtained an A Grade as one of the top students for the year. She’s a former employee of Lowveld Media and where our team has catapulted Mpumalanga News’ digital media to greater heights.
