With the recent spikes in children and women murder cases in the province, Premier Mandla Ndlovu has made it clear that Mpumalanga is not a hideout for criminals.
He said this during his State Of the Province Address (SOPA) on Wednesday at the Mpumalanga Legislature Chamber.
One of the concerns raised by Ndlovu was the high rate of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide cases. “We have seen a number of girl children who are kidnapped and murdered in our communities. We commend the arrest of the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.”

“Our province is not a “nest for criminals and druggies”. We further welcome the apprehension of 95 foreign nationals after police uncovered an illegal military training camp in White River. Lapha eMpumalanga si Vuth’ umlilo, futhi se kwenele! Siyabopha,” he warned.
As part of efforts to curb crime, he said at least 1200 crime prevention wardens will be deployed to enhance safety and security in our communities. These wardens will be trained and placed in hotspot crime areas all over the province working together with the SAPS.
He also called on communities to be alert at all times and to work with law enforcement agencies.
