PIENAAR – Eight people were shot and killed in a horrific mass shooting incident at Levisa Tavern this morning, Saturday, January 11.
The shooting incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, is believed to have involved an exchange of gunfire among the victims, although the circumstances and motive are still under investigation.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdluli, six people were shot and killed at the scene, while others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, two of the injured later passed away at the hospital.
Brigadier Mdluli has assured that a team of investigators has been assembled to probe the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. The police have collected cartridges from the scene, but have not made any arrests yet. However, two female witnesses have been taken in for questioning.

Duduzile Dludlu, one of the owners of Levisa Tavern, expressed her condolences to the families of the victims stating: “The incident deeply saddens us and our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We are committed to working with the authorities to ensure that justice is served so that we can all find closure.”

Family members of the victims were called to identify the bodies, and one family member of the deceased, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her shock and grief, saying, “We received a call about the mass shooting this morning, and it was devastating to learn that my brother was among the victims. We hope the perpetrators will be brought to justice so that we can find closure.”
The police are currently working around the clock to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting. While other details are still unclear, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
