Police investigate culpable homicide case following Bishop’s murder

A local pastor Bishop Fetjie Virginia Mngomezulu was murdered in at her farm along the N11 in Breyten on Wednesday, November 5. 

Bishop Mngomezulu’s husband, James Mngomezulu, received a call from farm workers to report to the farm. Upon arrival, the husband found his his Bishop Virginia in a pool of blood. Subsequently, the police were called to the scene. The husband informed the police that he received a call from his farm dwellers notifying him that a tractor was busy ploughing his field when the driver ran his wife over when attempted to stop the tractor driver by waving her hands.

According to the police, It is alleged that the driver continued driving and only stopped approximately 900 metres away from the scene, even after the incident had occurred. The Emergency medical services certified the woman dead at the scene.

“The investigation into this matter is ongoing. The case file has been submitted to the office of the Senior Public Prosecutor for a decision and further directives. No arrests have been made at this stage. Police in Breyten are continuing with investigations following a case of culpable homicide that occurred at Elim Farm,” said the police. A memorial service was held in her honour at Phola in Ogies on Wednesday.
