BETHAL – A disturbing case of alleged domestic violence has unfolded involving a couple who are both educators.
Bheki Nkosi, a SADTU South Highveld Regional Secretary and teacher, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, Nqobile Sihlangu, a fellow teacher, on multiple occasions.
The alleged incidents date back to May 29, and Nkosi’s actions have sparked widespread concern.
Following the allegations, Nkosi was served with a Protection Order, which he subsequently violated, continuing to harass Sihlangu. This led to his arrest and spent three months in custody for violating the order.
When approached for comment, SADTU’s Provincial Secretary, Walter Hlaise, provided context to the situation.
“Just clarification for proper context. This is a domestic incident. Someone might think he went to a school and assaulted a teacher. He is accused of assaulting his girlfriend who is a teacher,” he said.
Hlaise emphasised that SADTU stands against violence against women and children and condemns any such actions.

“We also respect that any accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The accused is not performing his normal duties until the case is finalized in court. Upon finalization, we will then take appropriate steps, guided by the court judgment,” he said.
The matter has also drawn attention from the Democratic Alliance, which announced in a media statement that they will be picketing outside the court on the day of Nkosi’s appearance.
Despite efforts to reach the department for comment, they did not respond to questions.
On June 26, Nkosi was released on R2000 bail and is expected to reappear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on November 18.
