MATAFFIN – Police are investigating a rape case that involves a six-year-old child It is reported that the minor was raped on Thursday by a 14-year old boy who is a neighbor to the victim.
It is understood that both the victim and the perpetrator are Mozambican nationals.
According to the mother, the girl was left under the supervision of fellow tenants as she was at work when this unfortunate incident occurred. She claimed she received a call from her fellow tenants informing her about the incident.
It was at that point she reported the case to the police. “I received a call from a tenant requesting me to return home immediately. On arrival, I found my daughter, the perpetrator, his mother and fellow tenants who narrated the story to me. My daughter concurred with them,” said the victim’s mother.

She further added that this was the second incident she had been raped by the same person – the first incident took place in December 2023.
“She told me that the preparator had threatened, hence she did not tell me about it,” she said. She further alleges that the said perpetrator is alleged to have paid R6 to some children who witnessed the incident and they subsequently left the scene.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdluli confirmed the arrest of a 14-year-old boy who was later released and instructed to appear before the Nelspruit Children’s Court on Monday, December 23.
“The family violence child protection on sexual offence unit is investigating the case. Both minors are Mozambican nationals. A case of rape was opened where the suspect was arrested. He was released under the care of the parent and instructed to appear in court,” Brigadier Mdluli said.

In a video that went viral on social media, it shows police officers handling the situation, which, according to Mdluli, was unprofessional. Mdluli said there is an internal investigation taking place.
