Six people arrested and explosives seized

BARBERTON- Operation Vala Umgodi continues to yield positive results.

Six suspects were arrested yesterday in Verulam during an operation where the sects include two foreign nationals, without valid documentation to be in South Africa whilst the rest were reportedly found in possession of some explosives.

During the operation three electric detonators, four capped fuses, 25 orange detonating fuses and nine blasting cartridges were recovered.

The investigation regarding this case is continuing and at this stage. Police say they cannot rule out the possibility that the arrested suspects could have been involved in some kind of illegal mining activities.

The six suspects are expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of illegal possession of explosives whilst others faced with Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
