Smash Shadow pours his out in new single

One of Mpumalanga’s illest rappers recently released his single titled, BabyDad featuring Larry that is doing great with over 20 000 streams online. 

The Pretoria-based Siphosethu ‘Smash Shadow’ Thabethe’s single is inspired when he decided to disclose his experience as a young father to his peers who also share similar experiences. 

Speaking to this publication he shared some light behind the meaning. “At the time, the creative stage of the song I was also going through issues with my mother of which it made me feel like I didn’t have family support, hence the ‘I wish I had a family this supportive when I call’ verse. That was me venting out my anger because I believe it’s only music that listens to me better when I voice out my struggles.” 

The track has already garnered 43 000 streams on Spotify since its release five months ago. The knocker was also nominated for the Best New Comer Award in the 012 City Awards in Pretoria. In 2017, he won the Best Lyricist In MP Cypher, which he impressively ended a three rounds competition on the second round. In the same year, he released his first body of work an EP titled, October 6th, Birth of a Young King which had hits like Broken featuring Da Saint he also released two more projects one in 2018 and another in 2019. Smash Shadow is from Msogwaba in the Lowveld.
