Suspects caught red handed with stolen items at shopping mall

MBOMBELA – Two suspects are expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday 18 December, after they caught with stolen items worth about R7 000 from a clothing shop at Ilanga Mall on Wednesday.

The suspects were arrested after close surveillance was conducted following allegations that the duo was involved in a string of shoplifting activities at Riverside Mall. It is alleged that the suspects allegedly stole a lot of clothes and fled the mall in a white vehicle.

The suspects were tracked down by the crime intelligence to Ilanga Mall. They were closely monitored and stole five jackets. They concealed the items inside a paper bag lined with a foil to prevent tag detection on the exit door of the shop. Members from Nelspruit Visible Policing were alerted and the suspects were arrested.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects are from kanyamazane. “The suspects might be possibly involved in other shoplifting cases at Riverside Mall. Investigators are adamant that the arrested suspects could as well be implicated in business robbery. This is where mobile phones were stolen and of course not ruling out their possible involvement in armed robberies. A similar vehicle they were travelling in was reported to have been used,” said Mohlala.
