In terms of the State, Official and Provincial Official Funeral Policy Manual of The Presidency, the State Funeral Category 2 is reserved for the Deputy President of the Republic, an Acting President and Former Deputy Presidents.
The State Funeral Category 2 is conducted with prescribed military ceremonial honours.

Mabuza family spokesperson, Desmond Moela explained the proceedings stating that the official service will be held at Hoerskool Bergvlam in the City of Mbombela. This will then be followed by a private ceremony where Mabuza will be laid to rest at his home in Barberton.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all South Africans for their support and condolences, which have strengthened us during this difficult time. We invite those who wish to pay their last respects to attend the memorial services that will be held in their respective regions. The venues for these services will be announced in due course,” said Moela.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 10 in all three regions. Venue details will be communicated in due course.

That best describes former Deputy President of the African National Congress Youth League, Desmond Moela’s sentiments of the late Deputy President, David “DD” Mabuza who passed away on Thursday, July 3 in hospital.

Moela who was close to Mabuza said he was not only a comrade but a father and brother who played a very crucial role in his life.

“He was a strict person, but he was always there for most of us. He loved wholeheartedly and never missed the chance to give proper advice.“We will miss that about him, among other things. The news of his passing came as a shock, but we will soldier on,” said Moela.

The family is yet to meet and discuss arrangements this afternoon.
