A case stemming from a Gender-Based-Violence and Femicide (GBVF) incident which reportedly occurred in Vosman on 4 August 2024, is back on the court roll.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on 6 September, 2024.

An assault case with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened by a 38-year-old woman and the matter was investigated leading to the arrest of a 42 year-old male suspect. However, the case was struck off the roll and the suspect was released.

“There are also allegations that came to the attention of the SAPS, regarding a delay by members to immediately open the case upon attending the said incident on that said day.Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) incidents are regarded as serious and the SAPS remains committed to responding promptly and effectively to all reports of such incidents,” reads a police statement.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has since welcomed the support given to the victim. He encouraged members of the public to work hand-in-hand with the state organs assigned for this case and refrain from any interference or actions that may hinder the investigators and prosecution team.

“The team is working collaborately and professionally in order to do the correct thing. We do not want a situation that will derail the team unnecessary thereby opening loopholes for the suspect to walk free. We are happy that the date is set though we wished for an earlier date but let the wheel of justice move into the right direction, ” said the General.
