<p>Three bank employees are facing charges of fraud, theft and Contravention of Prevention of Organised Crime Act.</p>



<p>This is after the trio including a bank manager and two tellers made unauthorised transactions from clients&#8217; bank accounts enriching themselves with R3 950 941.</p>



<p>A year later, in 2017, the <a href="https://www.saps.gov.za/newsroom/msspeechdetail.php?nid=63464" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation</a> finalised the investigation leading to their arrest. </p>



<p>They were all released on bail while investigations continued. On Monday, September 4, 2025, one teller, Bonginkosi Praise Khoza pleaded guilty on all charges. He was found guilty and is awaiting sentencing next on November 13, 2025.</p>



<p>Selby Khoza, who is alleged to be a bank manager and Winny Mashaba, a teller maintained their innocence.</p>

<p>Their bail was extended and are expected to appear alongside Khoza during his sentencing.</p>



<p>The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga Major General Nico Gerber commended the team comprised of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Priority Crime Specialised Investigation, Financial Intelligence Centre, Bank Investigators, and the National Prosecuting Authority for the professional handling of the case. &#8220;We will ensure that justice is served to all the affected parties,&#8221; concluded the General.</p>

<p>Former court clerk, Cornelius Mametse (43), pleaded guilty on six corruption charges and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of similar charges.</p>



<p>The matter was brought to the attention of the <a href="https://www.saps.gov.za" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hawks </a>Middleburg based Serious Corruption Investigation in 2023.</p>



<p>Mametse was sentenced after pleading guilty of stealing money from six victims, claiming that the money was required to pay the services of the sheriff or legal representatives for his personal gain in 2022.</p>

<p>The cases were investigated and Mametse was positively linked to all the charges, leading to the sentence handed down by <a href="https://www.justice.gov.za/maps/areas-mp.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kwamhlanga Regional Court </a>on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.</p>



<p>The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber condemned incidents where people use their authority to steal from the vulnerable. &#8220;We can not allow such activities to happen to the victims who are already affected by crime&#8221; said the General.</p>

<p>A former police official and four other suspects arrested for Lieutenant-Colonel Piet Pretorius&#8217;s death remain behind bars.</p>



<p>This is after four of the five suspects, Mthobisi Nkosi, Aubrey Xaba, Skhumbuzo Skhakhane and Nyiko Mujovo abandoned their bail application on Tuesday, February 18.</p>



<p>They appeared in the <a href="https://www.justice.gov.za/maps/maps-mp.html">Ermelo Magistrate&#8217;s </a><a href="https://www.justice.gov.za/maps/maps-mp.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Court</a><a href="https://www.justice.gov.za/maps/maps-mp.html"> </a>with the fifth suspect, Valencia Skhosana who proceeded with her bail application but was also remanded in custody.</p>

<p>Their arrest came a few hours after the murder was committed in the early hours of January 17. After their first court appearance, more evidence was brought forward. </p>

<p> They are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as defeating the ends of justice. </p>



<p>Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, said the postponement will allow the investigation team to obtain further evidence and bring the matter to a speedy trial.</p>



<p>They are expected to appear in court on April 10, 2025.</p>
