The MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Mohita Latchminarain took the decision after numerous attempts to resolve the conflict between the two associations have proved to be unsuccessful.

“After carefully analysing the situation, it is my considered view that the safety of passengers, operators, drivers and people entering or within the area is compromised by the conflict between the associations. I am, therefore, of the view that the affected routes must be closed to avoid further tensions,” said MEC Latchminarain.

According to the department, the operating licences and permits of the two associations will be suspended until further notice. This means that no operator is authorised to operate in the designated routes. The Transport Inspectorate Unit and other law enforcement agencies will monitor compliance. Legal actions will be taken against any operator who violates the terms and conditions of the suspension.
