The suspect was arrested in Charl Cilliers on Sunday, 8 March after the police received a complaint of a missing child and immediately activated units of the SAPS that included Crime Intelligence, K9 and Detectives, to search for the child.

The team was joined by private security officers, farmers and members of the local Community Police Forum with the search leading to the discovery of the clothes of the child dumped near a maize field. Further investigation resulted into the arrest of the suspect who led the police to the maize field where the body of the missing child was found.

He appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, February 6 after he was arrested by the Hawks the day before.

His arrest came after a tip-off from a source who revealed activities on his farm. At his two warehouses, four cold-rooms that were loaded with food, including meat, chicken, and dairy products were found. All the recovered food was either rotten or expired.

His case was remanded to 27 March, 2025 to allow further investigation to be conducted. The court also ordered Grobler to report at Charl Cillier SAPS every Monday between 08:00 and 18:00. He was also instructed by the court to surrender his traveling documents to the investigating officer until the court issues a different order.
