According to police, it is still not known who shot the 50 year-old woman. However, there are allegations that she and two other people who sustained injuries were shot at by police.

Reports reveal that the protests were triggered by power blackouts which were experienced in the area for the past weeks. All entrances and exits roads were reportedly barricaded with stones and burning tyres.

“Last night protestors in KwaGuqa Extension turned violent and there are rumors of looting and torching a store. A case of public violence has been opened with two people arrested so far,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
