His Majesty King Makhosonke II Mabhena, of the amaNdebele nation passed away this week.
His Majesty King Makhosonke II – Enock Makhosonke Mabhena – reigning King of the AmaNdebele nation passed away at the age of 65 after 40 years on the throne.
Tributes have been pouring following his passing from leaders and organisations including President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“My thoughts and prayers – and I know those of the nation – go out today to the Royal Household, Her Majesty Queen Sekhothali, amaNdebele and the Basotho nation from whom Her Majesty is descended.
“We will in due course pay tribute to the King as a pillar of national unity in diversity and as a champion of development, with education and land restitution, as part of his vision,” said the president.
Premier, Mandla Ndlovu also paid respect to the royal family during his visit saying his passing has left many in shock and sorrow, not only in Mpumalanga but across the nation.
“We visited the royal home to pay our respects, to comfort the family, and to assure the family that we will provide all necessary support from this day until the last day. We mourn a leader who stood firm in protecting heritage and empowering generations. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire unity and progress”
The African National Congress (ANC) Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), led by the Provincial Secretary, Muzi Chirwa is expected to visit the Royal Family this morning.
“The visit is intended to convey the ANC’s heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the Royal Family, the AmaNdebele People, and all those mourning this profound loss,” said the party in a statement.
