Hawks in witch hunt to arrest cash-in-transit heist suspect

The Hawks are searching for a suspect involved in a cash-in-transit heist.

The Hawks believe the suspect will assist their investigation as there is a scourge of heists. On May 17, an armed gang ambushed a cash van on the D4394 at Mhala. According to the police, a white Audi sedan came from behind and the occupants started shooting on the van’s tyres and cabin. The vehicle came to a halt and the six heavily armed suspects wearing balaclavas and gloves. They forced the driver and the crew out of the cabin.

“The suspects robbed one security guard of his firearm and cell phone. They also forced the guards to go into hiding as they blasted the cabin. They then fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash,” read the police statement.

The suspect in the CCTV photograph may assist the Hawks in the armed robbery investigation.
