Two men arrested for stealing ATM machine

The police arrested two men for business robbery after forcefully removing an ATM at a fuel station at Charl Celliers near Secunda last Friday.

According to police, about five armed male suspects stormed into a kiosk at a fuel station and held the employees at gunpoint. Some suspects were wearing police bulletproof vests. The suspects carried heavy calibre firearms, including rifles. They tied the employees and detached the ATM before loading it into a trailer. The suspects towed the trailer with one of their vehicles and drove off. One of their getaway vehicles was a BMW X3.

“I eventually reported the incident to police, who swiftly responded and activated their resources in seeking of the suspects. Officers spotted the BMW X3 with two occupants and the vehicle matched the description. A high-speed chase then ensued until the members near Morgenzon brought the BMW to a halt. Police then conducted a search on the vehicle and its occupants. They discovered some number plates and a certain object used to remove the ATM,” read the statement.

The two suspects were then arrested and charged for a business robbery. Their vehicle was confiscated and it will form part of the investigation. Meanwhile, the two men will appear at the Secunda Magistrate’s Court today.
