Fire breaks out at Rob Ferreira Hospital

MBOMBELA- One of the pipes at Rob Ferreira Hospital caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.

The Department of Health says reports reveal that the fire was caused by a cigarette butt thrown by a patient who was smoking. Unfortunately it fell on the wrong place and it started a small fire.

“The fire department was called in and the fire was put out. No person or patients were injured as they were evacuated on time.However, the smoke went through several wards including Day ward and Paediatric Ward. There was not much damage caused except for the burnt pipe,” reads a statement.

The department has pleaded with all smoking patients, staff and visitors to smoke in designated areas and ensure they throw their cigarettes butts in the provided bins.
