MBOMBELA – In a significant step towards combating gender-based violence (GBV) in Mpumalanga, Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, handed over 10 state-owned properties to the Mpumalanga Department of Social Development yesterday, May 19.

The handover ceremony took place at the Mbombela Local Municipality Council Chamber, where he was joined by the Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, and the MEC for Social Development, Brenda Moeketsi.

The properties, previously vacant, will be repurposed as shelters for victims of GBV. According to the ministry, the properties are strategically located in Badplaas (5), Lothair (4), and Delmas (1). These shelters will provide crucial support and protection to those in need, offering a safe haven for victims to rebuild their lives.
