MBOMBELA – The Nelspruit Flying Squad successfully apprehended a 36-year-old suspect during the early hours of Friday morning, 17 April 2026, following a high-speed vehicle pursuit in the CBD.
Members were conducting routine patrols along Samora Machel Street near the High Court at approximately 03:30 when they noticed a white bakkie joining the road from Kaapsehoop Road. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, ignoring police instructions.
A chase ensued, during which the suspect drove at high speed and allegedly disregarded traffic signals. The pursuit ended near the garage curve, where the driver lost control of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was fitted with false registration plates from Mpumalanga Province, while the original registration belongs to Gauteng Province. The vehicle was reported stolen in Nigel.

The suspect was arrested and is facing charges related to possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Additional cases linked to theft in Springs are also under investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear at Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon. Investigations are ongoing.
