State opposes female doctor’s husband bail application

MBOMBELA – Sifiso Sibanyoni, the husband and accused of being the mastermind of his wife’s murder Dr. Nondumiso Nkosi appeared at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on July 10, following his arrest on July 8. He submitted an affidavit to justify his release on bail, despite the seriousness of the charges against him. However, the state opposed his bail application.

Yesterday, the Investigating Officer took the stand and provided a detailed account of her investigation. Key points from her testimony include:

  • The deceased, Dr. Nkosi, was shot in the shoulder and face.
  • The husband and deceased were in the process of divorce and had protection orders against each other.
  • Witnesses testified that the husband approached them in 2024, seeking “muthi” to kill his wife.
  • The husband allegedly told witnesses that he wanted to kill his wife and asked them to assist him.
  • The witnesses claimed that the husband showed them his wife’s photos and told them about her daily routine, including her visits to the gym and workplace.
  • The husband initially paid R70 000 to unknown people to kill his wife, but they did not follow through and instead ran away with the money.

Further investigation revealed that there was a protection order against the husband, with conditions that included not threatening or harming the complainant. She also found that the couple was in the process of divorce and that the wife was seeking 50% of the husband’s pension and properties.

The Investigating Officer applied for a Section 205 to access the husband’s banking and cellphone records. Her investigation revealed that the husband’s call log showed he contacted one of the witnesses he had initially told about his intentions to kill his wife, and had instructed them to ensure that his wife was dead by their next court appearance.

The court heard that the witnesses came forward after the murder, claiming that they were hired to kill Dr. Nkosi but did not go through with the plan. Instead, they allegedly planned to disappear with the husband’s money.
