Murder accused, Nkosinathi Chauke was denied bail after his appearance in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 25 in connection with the murder of his 10-year-old daughter.
Chauke was arrested on Monday, 22 September, 2025 following the discovery of the child’s lifeless body on the side of the road between Cunningmore A and B. According to information received by the police, the victim was last seen when her father fetched her from her grandmother’s home in Cunningmore, claiming he was taking her to buy clothes.
Upon arrival at the scene, police and Emergency Medical Services found the child lying on the ground. She was certified dead at the scene.

A case of murder was immediately opened and Chauke was traced following a tip-off that he had been seen in the Masoyi area. He was then arrested.
The suspect made his first court appearance a day after his arrest. His case was postponed to October 2.
Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest and expressed hope that justice will prevail. He further stated: “Fathers are meant to protect their children, not harm them. This is a heartbreaking case that must be met with the full might of the law.”
