MP-LP tourism initiatives get off to a good start

THOHOYANDOU – It has been a glorious closing of both Tourism and Heritage Month with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) and their counterparts, the Limpopo Tourism Authority (LTA) joining hands in exploring tourism products that hosts, LTA had to demonstrate to their counterparts.

The whole essence of the partnership, according to the Limpopo Tourism Authority’s Chief Marketing Officer, Modjadji Makoela: “It’s meant to grow both provinces’ unique gems. We share the Kruger National Park with Mpumalanga and this year we’re both celebrating the centenary year of the KNP and we as Limpopo, occupy a larger portion of it.

“We equally have our own gems which are unique and play a very important role to our tourists coming to our shores and on the other hand, compliments those offerings. “An added advantage on our side is that arts and craft also plays an important role for local people, especially womenfolk who make a living out of art and craft.

“On the other hand, we urge our tourism practitioners to team up with their counterparts in creating tourism packages that offer tourists a unique experience in both provinces. Limpopo province offers incredible tourism gems ranging from lush mountain forests and ancient historical ruins to world-renowned wildlife reserves.”

We enjoyed a whole day’s visit to the Mapungubwe Game Reserve, whereby, we boarded safari vehicles and explored the reserve being taken on a background on the foundation of the Mapungubwe tribe and its incredible contribution to the historic development of its people and cultural heritage.

We viewed the unique accommodation on offer and the basic historical background.
Finally, we enjoyed a music festival hosted by the LTA in partnership with Phalaphala FM held at the Royal Gardens at the famous Nandoni Dam. If were to be asked to return, I certainly would oblige.
