EMALAHLENI – Tensions ran high at Witbank Technical High School this morning between community members and a local publication.
This was during a meeting scheduled to take place at the school with with parents, the Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe and Education MEC, Bonakele Majuba.
After the first session chaos erupted when community members stormed in the media room and demanded that one of the publications leaves the school.
The publication is accused of not reporting accurately on the alleged racial matter that resulted in the school suspending classes on Monday during a protest.
Witbank News editor, Amanda Botha slammed the accusations stating that they reported what was happening at the time and not based on the publication’s opinion.
“If you check the videos on our Facebook page we did not speak to the parties concerned. It was what happened and that is what we published. The I formation that we published is the one that we received from the school, School Governing Body and the department of Education. I invited them to come and see me so they could raise their concerns which did not happen up to now,” she said.
