Cocaine to the estimated value of about R29.3 million was reportedly found in a truck which was intercepted in Lebombo Port of Entry on Saturday morning, December 3.
It is alleged that the driver of a truck (with Gauteng registration number plates) crossed the Port of Entry from Mozambique into South Africa is said to have declared his consignment as hair pieces. After the cargo was cleared, customs officials handpicked for further inspection of the truck.
According to information, whilst officials were still busy, the driver sneaked away under the pretence that he was going to get hold of the truck owner. He then disappeared into thin air before officials discovered the 200kg of suspected drugs (cocaine) hidden inside the truck. They confiscated both the truck and the luggage for further investigation.
“We have made no arrests so far, but police are doing their best to locate the truck driver and the truck owner,” read the police statement.
