Finance MEC emphasises fiscal discipline ahead of Adjustments Budget tabling

The MEC for Finance, Bonakele Majuba closed the Medium Term Expenditure Committee hearings by giving the Mpumalanga Provincial public sector institutions an opportunity to present their spending outcomes for the first quarter of the 2025/26 Financial Year.

The department held a successful three days programme from 14-16 October 2025, where all 11 provincial departments, the Legislature and public entities appeared before the committee during the three days programme.

The MEC urged all to leverage the MTEC platform not only to refine spending proposals but to reaffirm the collective commitment to prudent financial management and fiscal discipline by all organs of government.

The hearings were able to realise the three stages of development which are the three main purposes for which Medium Term Expenditure Forums are introduced to enhance aggregate fiscal discipline to improve strategic allocation and to strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of expenditures.

Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury will use the submissions from all institutions who presented to deliver the Adjustment Budget which serves as a revision to the existing budget to account for changes in revenue or spending needs, such as reallocating funds, responding to unforeseen circumstances, or correcting errors.

The Adjustment budget will be tabled at the Provincial Legislature sitting scheduled for 25 November, 2025.
