The former Municipal Manager of Nkomazi Local Municipality, Muzi Daniel Ngwenya, was arrested by the Hawks for fraud, theft and contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act on Friday, 28 October.

In December 2021, Ngwenya bought a pre-owned Mercedes Benz using municipal funds at a dealership in Bedfordview, Johannesburg. The Hawks established he registered the vehicle in his name, defrauding the municipality an amount of R900 000.

He appeared before the Tonga Magistrates’ Court on the same day and he was granted R10 000 bail. The case was postponed to 25 January for further investigation.
