Four suspects are due to appear at the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court for two counts of murder on Monday.
This is after the men shot dead two men at a farm in Dirkieskop on Friday. It is alleged that they also assaulted another man. Another assault count with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm has been added to their charges.
According to police, the shooting incident began when the farm workers went to seek employment as seasonal workers. The farm owner informed the men that they are not welcome on his premises. The men decided to leave the farm but later realised that one of them was left behind. They went back only to find that he was kept at the farm by the suspects.
“The men demanded that they let him go, a scuffle broke out where two of them were shot and died at the scene. Three other men are sustained serious injuries,” read the statement.
Police were informed about the incident and upon arrival, they found the two groups and two bodies. A case was opened. Following the investigation, four suspects were arrested. Two firearms were also confiscated and which will form part of the investigation.
