Safer festive season operations net over 280 suspects

The Safer Festive Season Operation is in full swing in Mpumalanga as over the past weekend, over 280 suspects were arrested for being involved in various criminal activities, including murder, rape, robberies, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs amongst others.

The multidisciplinary security forces are already out in full force to protect and ensure that citizens together with their properties are safe during the period of festive season and beyond. There were various simultaneous activities that were executed in this regard by these astute members throughout the province to guarantee that they have a “tight grip” on crime and criminals.


The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has called on the community to respect the law and not commit crime nor drive their vehicles being under the influence of alcohol as 57 suspects were arrested for drunk and driving. The collective also recovered 27 firearms (24 revolvers and 03 rifles) with 45 ammunition.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts across the province while others were issued with summons to pay fines.
General Zuma has commended the joint forces for their resilience during this period which saw perpetrators being put behind bars.
