Heavy downpours flood roads in Ermelo and collapses entertainment joint in Kanyamazane

Heavy rainfall caused damage to a popular entertainment joint, Chaf Zar Lifestyle in Kanyamazane and flooded roads in Ermelo yesterday.

Pictures and videos of the aftermath have been trending on social media after the heavy downpours.

This comes after the destruction of tropical cyclone Eloise last week. According to the South African Weather Services, more rain is expected today which will result in flooding in various areas as the soil is still saturated due to the rainfall depression of the tropical cyclone.

“Walls, general disruption to traffic and basic services will also be affected. flooding of roads and settlements, dangerous driving conditions on our tarred and dead roads due to increased number of potholes, as well as danger to life (particularly to fast-flowing rivers and streams,” the SA Weather Services statement read.

Other areas including Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, which the SA Weather Service warned of flooding, damage to property, infrastructure, loss of livelihood and livestock and will affect traffic. This will be due to flooding of main roads and damage to dam walls and isolated cases of breakages.
