Hitch-hiker shoots two robbers dead

A man fatally shot two alleged robbers while trying to rob him near the Crocodile Valley Road near the N4 yesterday.

The man hitch-hiked when two alleged suspects were driving in a silver grey VW Polo towards the direction of Malelane. The suspects offered the lift to the man at Valencia. Along the way, they drew a knife to rob the man.

He then pulled out his firearm and shot both men. One died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries a few meters away from the scene. According to the police, the two are yet to be identified.

“They informed police about the incident and a case of robbery with another weapon was opened with two counts of inquest. Police confiscated the firearm knife, and the vehicle used to form part of the investigation,” read the police statement. Preliminary investigation suggests the VW Polo may be linked to other armed robberies.
