Human remains discovered near a river

Police are yet to solve the mystery of human remains discovered near a river at kaMalahleka area in Tjakastad on Tuesday, 21 January. 

The gruesome discovery was made by a local herd-man who was taking his cattle for grazing in the area. He allegedly informed a community leader who called the police.

Spokesperson for the Elukwatini Police Station Sergeant Wiseman Nkosi said that when police arrived at the scene, they discovered what looked like a human skull, a human torso that was detached from the skull, only the right arm with no hand/palm and the left arm. 

“We are urging the community to assist us with any information that could lead to the identification of these human remains and possibly shed some information on what might have transpired,” said Nkosi.

Last year, human remains were also discovered by a herd-man in a veld at Nhlazatshe Extension 3. The remains were identified to be belonging to a 32-year-old Thapelo Mabaso, a witness in a murder case who had gone missing.

Nkosi urged community members with missing family members to contact the police. “We encourage the public to report missing people to the police as soon as possible,” he added.
