MOOIPLAAS – A 34-year-old well known businessman, Mbongeni Tshabalala was shot and killed at a local tavern.
Tshabalala was shot on the forehead and succumbed to his injuries at the Embhuleni Hospital on Sunday. The deceased owned a pharmacy in Hendrina.
Spokesperson for the Elukwatini Police Station, Sergeant Wiseman Nkosi revealed that the alleged shooter who was driving a white BMW was arrested in the CBD and appeared before the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing murder charges.
“Police intercepted the said vehicle and took a 33-year-old male for questioning, and on the vehicle, a legal 9mm pistol with its serial number was recovered,” said Nkosi.

The infamous Tshabala was under police investigation after the community of Mooiplaas protested against him and accused him of peddling drugs and using the local youth for criminal purposes.
One of the crimes he was accused of was related to the murder of a man whose body was found ditched under the bridge in December. The case was still under investigation when he met his death.
