Just a few weeks after the country commemorated Women’s Month, a 24 year-old woman was reportedly attacked and raped by a shop owner in Kwaggafontein on Wednesday, September 18.
The incident was reported in the afternoon on the day of the incident. Reports reveal that the victim was returning from a doctor’s appointment when she passed the shop where the suspect forcefully grabbed and raped her inside the shop premises.
The suspect was arrested later that day and appeared in the Mkobola Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 19 where the cases was postponed for today.

Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect has previous pending cases of rape and was allegedly out on bail at the time of the recent incident.
Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, has strongly condemned this disturbing act of Gender-Based-Violence committed against the defenceless victim. He urged members of the public to allow legal processes to proceed without resulting to vigilante justice, which could compromise the integrity of the investigation.
