Machado Toll Plaza employee arrested for fraud

MACHADODORP – An employee at the Machado Toll Plaza was arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team yesterday for credit card fraud.

The accused allegedly colluded with a colleague, Thembi Pretty Qwebu who was also arrested for fraud in December last year. “He fraudulently supplied her with company credit cards from different banks to commit the unlawful transactions,” said the Hawks.

According to them, one of the banks initiated an internal audit which established that the illegal transactions were taking place at the toll gate. More than R100 000 was reportedly lost through similar transactions linked to the pair.

Following Qwebu’s arrest, she appeared in the Belfast Magistrate’s Court and was released on a R1000 bail. She is expected to appear in court again today where she will be joined by her accomplice.
