Mother arrested for alleged poisoning of infant

BUSHBUCKRIDGE- A 33-year-old woman was arrested in Boikhutso Trust today following the death of her eight month-old child.

Preliminary reports suggests that the child’s death could be as the result of poisoning and the incident was brought to the attention of police by a local funeral parlour, prompting immediate response.

“On arrival at the scene, the men and women in blue discovered the infant laying motionless, with the mother present. As part of the ongoing investigation, the forensic team has began the spade work through gathering of evidence with a hope to determine the cause of death,” reads a police statement.

The motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage and it will form part of the investigation.

The investigation is still continuing and the public will be updated as further information becomes available.

The female suspect is expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
